History

History of Katz's

Katz’s has been a Texas institution for more than 30 years. We opened our first authentic, New York style restaurant in Austin, Texas, in 1979. And it didn’t take long for our classic New York cuisine to win the hearts of cowboy country. Before we knew it, lines were out the door and around the block. People couldn’t get enough of our signature dishes: the towering Reuben, the tart and crispy fried pickles, the rich and creamy Cheesecake Shake. We got so busy, we stayed open 24 hours. And that’s where we got our saying, “Katz’s Never Kloses.”

A new york restaurant in Houston, TX

Over time, we moved to Houston, and opened locations in Montrose, The Woodlands, Galleria and The Heights. But we always stayed true to our original mission: to provide the freshest and most authentic New York style dishes, painstakingly prepared according to generations-old family recipes. We hope you’ll come see us at any of our Houston locations, and dine on the very best New York style dishes this side of Manhattan!
